Switch It On!

Activate Your Personal Potential

Ten essential life dimensions. One book. Your blueprint for a life lived on your own terms.

About the Book

What would your life look like if you gave yourself permission to live it fully? Switch It On! is the personal development guide that asks that question and then hands you the tools to answer it.

Drawing on years of global travel, leadership experience, yoga and meditation practice, and a deep commitment to sustainable living, Monique Chelin distils hard won wisdom into a practical, energising framework. This isn’t abstract theory. It’s a hands on adventure through the real challenges of modern life, built around ten interconnected dimensions that touch every part of who you are: Time, Health, Success, Wealth, Love, Joy, Peace, Wisdom, Nature, and Freedom. From reframing how you spend your most valuable resource to reconnecting with the natural world around you, each chapter pairs universal principles from thought leaders across cultures with simple strategies you can put into action today.

Whether you’re searching for clarity at a crossroads or looking to deepen a life that already feels good, Switch It On! meets you where you are and helps you move toward where you want to be.

Switch On Time

their time, instead of feeling like a slave to time. If you are worrying about something it probably means you are not doing anything about it. Really efficient people use every available moment, even if it is for complete relaxation, they know that their time is well-used. Carry a book with you wherever you go — use the inbetween time to grow, not to vegetate and you will have a sense that your needs are being met even while waiting in a queue at the bank.

So let’s start at the beginning. How did you make time to brush your teeth each day? First off, your parents drummed it into you that you couldn’t leave the house in the morning or go to bed at night without first brushing those pearly whites. After many tantrums and gnashing of those same teeth, it became a habit — something you would never consider not doing. Pay attention now, because this rule is going to stick with us throughout this journey. Practice makes habit.

Yesterday is out of our hands.
Tomorrow is yet unknown.
Today is all we have.
Let us begin now.

What do you need to accomplish each day? Have you
ever scheduled your entire day? Let’s do it right now.

Total Available Time (24 hours)

05

Switch It On!

We each have a total of 24 hours available every day.

A number of these are already committed, it’s true. But how effectively have we allocated this time to account for routine activities that we must complete daily?

Sleep Time (8 Hours)

We should commit to sufficient sleep time, which is generally accepted to be eight hours. Sleep Time is allocated first, because it’s a no-brainer that if you aren’t getting sufficient good quality sleep you will be ineffective when awake.

Work Time (8 hours)

Similarly, eight hours are generally allocated to our working pursuits. Wherever work is, the commitment may fluctuate through necessity - a sick child, a project deadline. We can create time for those challenges too, as you’ll see shortly, but we’ll start by working with eight hours.

That means we have eight remaining hours in the day.

Household Time (4 hours)

It has been suggested that the daily grind of housework, food preparation, travel time (to and from work, shuttling the kids around from school to sports and ballet

practice) would occupy about four hours each day. If this is eating up more hours, you need to re-think where you live in relation to work and prepare food on weekends and freeze it for daily meals. Get the family involved in household chores or only do chores on certain days, not bits and pieces every day. Do your grocery shopping once a week or better yet once a month. Once you try this and feel the pain of not having bought any cookies on grocery day knowing that it will be a week until you get another opportunity, you will immediately stick a shopping list on the fridge to make sure they are never forgotten again! You will save money too, not to mention the benefit to the environment by reducing the use of your car.

Once time is lost it can never be regained
Use it wisely

This schedule gives us a total of four hours completely free time on a daily basis. Four blissful hours to do with what you wish! And here’s what you could be doing with that time:

Creating Time (1 hour)

This is the quiet time in the morning for meditation, defining and focusing on your goals, giving thanks, thinking, reflecting. This is the time you will use to visualise exactly how you want your day to develop. Identify the key rewards you are going to create today. They are the reason you are taking this time to create. I have a system I use (I told you I would only write things I have tried myself and believe in!) and have
